Connect with Black physicians across Alberta providing compassionate, culturally responsive care.
Research suggests that racial and cultural concordance between patients and physicians can improve trust, communication, patient satisfaction, and engagement with care.
For Black Albertans, this can mean feeling more comfortable discussing symptoms, concerns, and lived experiences with a physician who understands the importance of cultural context.
“When you walk into a room and see someone who looks like you, you feel seen. In medicine, that feeling can change everything.”
— Jared Sieusahai, Founder, Black Health Connect Alberta

Shared cultural context can support more respectful conversations about lived experience, family, community, and social determinants of health.
Black physicians often play important roles in advocacy, mentorship, and advancing health equity within communities and healthcare systems.

Building bridges between Black patients and Black physicians to advance trust, representation, and health equity across Alberta.
Black Canadians continue to experience significant disparities in health outcomes, including in areas such as cardiovascular health, diabetes, maternal health, mental health, and access to preventive care. These disparities are not inevitable. They are shaped by systemic inequities, including barriers within the healthcare system itself.
Research suggests that racial and cultural concordance between patients and physicians can improve trust, communication, patient satisfaction, preventive care uptake, and engagement with treatment recommendations.
At Black Health Connect Alberta, we believe that connecting Black Albertans with Black physicians is not only a matter of comfort. It is a matter of health equity, trust, and access to care.
Every Albertan deserves access to care that respects their identity, culture, and lived experience.
Seeing a physician who shares your background can build trust, improve communication, and help patients feel more understood.
We celebrate and uplift Black physicians who contribute meaningfully to the health of Albertans.
We support efforts to increase Black representation in Alberta’s medical schools, hospitals, clinics, and health leadership spaces.
Alberta’s Black community is diverse, growing, and vibrant. Yet many Black Albertans report feeling dismissed, unheard, or culturally misunderstood in healthcare settings. Black Health Connect Alberta was established to be part of the solution: making it easier for Black patients to find physicians who understand the importance of cultural context, while celebrating the Black physicians who practise across our province.
Physician profiles are based on publicly available information and/or physician-submitted details. Physicians may request updates or removal at any time by contacting jsieusah@ualberta.ca.
Black Health Connect Alberta was founded by Jared Sieusahai, a Trinidadian-Canadian Master’s of Public Health graduate and community organizer based in Edmonton, Alberta. Jared built this directory from a simple but urgent conviction: that Black Albertans deserve to see themselves reflected in the physicians who care for them, and that the extraordinary Black doctors practising across this province deserve to be found.
Drawing on his background in public health and his lived experience as a Black Canadian navigating Alberta’s healthcare system, Jared identified a critical gap: there was no centralized, publicly accessible resource connecting Black patients with Black physicians in Alberta. He set out to fill it by researching physicians, developing detailed profiles, and building a platform that now lists over 90 Black physicians across 19 Alberta communities.
Jared’s work is rooted in the evidence that culturally responsive care can strengthen trust, communication, patient satisfaction, and engagement with preventive care. For Jared, this work is not abstract. It is about helping Black Albertans feel seen, heard, and respected when seeking care. Black Health Connect Alberta is his contribution to a healthier, more connected, and more equitable Alberta.
